I was surprised to hear in the Spring of 2022 from Kensington Palace that my photo of the Queen for the Jubilee exhibition, Life Through A Royal Lens had been selected to be included! This photograph was exhibited at the palace.
It was taken on 27th June, 1979 when the Queen and Prince Philip visited the Open University, Walton Hall campus, to celebrate the OUs 10-year anniversary. She appeared very happy as she walked through a 'corridor' of OU staff on the Mulberry Lawn in the centre of the campus. As she came closer my brain said 'great opportunity for a really good close-up photo'. My heart thought 'why not have a chat instead of taking a photo and if she asks 'what do you do at the OU' I will say, 'I am a Cartographer and make maps'. I would also say that 'I know the Royal Collection of maps is the best in the world and would love to see it! But instead, my brain kicked in and I just took this photo! The original photo was shot as a 35mm film slide with a Minolta 7000. This version was scanned from that original slide on my current printer-scanner to make it digital. Anne and I visited the exhibition in the summer of 2022. The set of family photos are ancient and varied and will be improved over time. The second 'slide show' are images from Madagascar of some of the paintings and artifacts our mother Florence brought back from Madagascar in 1938. uTube link: https://youtu.be/8thp1cEYX4g The uTube link below is to John's 'Channel' with his and Anne'sholiday 'snaps' over many years around the world.
